A phrase we have been hearing a lot of late is sustainable fashion and rightfully so. Sustainability is turning out to be the need of the hour. Turns out, the fashion industry is one of the biggest contributors of carbon emissions and microplastics year after year1. The production of clothes takes up a huge chunk of the earth’s water resources; for instance, the production of a simple cotton t-shirt consumes approximately 600 gallons of water2. What’s more, fabrics like polyester predominantly used in the fast fashion industry are considered non-biodegradable3. All of these facts indicate that we are going terribly wrong when we choose fast fashion for its affordability while the environment pays the true price.
However, all is not lost. We can do our bit to save the environment for a better tomorrow by making conscious choices even with regards to fashion, an industry we feel very closely for.
