Birla Cellulose has achieved significant milestones in developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for processing Birla Excel (Lyocell) fibre and its blends in knit applications. This advancement marks the successful expansion of Birla Excel fibre into new product segments in both men’s and women’s outerwear, driven by collaborative efforts between Birla Cellulose’s VCD Processing and Knits category teams.

Strategic collaborations have been initiated with leading exporters such as KPR Mills, Eastman, Eicher, and Warsaw, focusing on 100% cotton-based products in the outerwear segment. These partnerships aim to enhance the market presence of Birla Excel fibre by highlighting its distinctive properties. Initial trials have demonstrated exceptional results in shade consistency, pilling resistance, shrinkage control, and minimal fibrillation, even after multiple home launderings. Notably, these outcomes were achieved without applying any resin finishes during trials or bulk runs, underscoring the fibre’s inherent performance advantages.

Encouraged by these positive developments, Birla Cellulose has successfully secured initial business with key customers and anticipates repeat orders in the near future, further solidifying its position in the knit segment. In addition to existing partnerships, sampling trials with several other customers have been conducted, with promising results expected to facilitate further breakthroughs. The BC team is also exploring additional trials with various counts and constructions at key knit customers, broadening the scope of Birla Excel fibre applications. Birla Cellulose is optimistic that these initiatives will significantly boost the consumption of Birla Excel fibre and its blends within the knitwear segment.
